News: The Long and Short of It is here!

Hi friends and readers everywhere! Happy New Year! Just to let you know that my collection of stories is now available on Amazon at a reduced cost for the new year. It’s called The Long and Short of It. I have both a print book and an ebook. Most all of the stories were written for the classes I’ve attended over the last few years (with the exception of a few that I wrote about Mexico City some time ago). So this is, in my opinion, a pretty big deal! Hope you’ll check it out.

( You can also read a few of the stories in Amazon’s Look Inside feature.) Click on the link below to go directly to Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/amazonslz .

Thanks for your support and have a great year! It’s got to be better than last!

Coming soon! The Long and Short of It

My new short story collection will be out soon on Amazon in both print and Kindle editions.  The back cover copy reads like this:

Have you ever looked away for just a second, in a store, in a park, or on the street, only to find your child missing from your side? The sheer panic is enough to drive you mad. This is  exactly what happens in Susan Lynn Zenker’s award-winning story “What I’d Be Without You.”

Don’t miss this exciting read along with a dozen other stories in various genres. With romance, sci-fi, thrillers, and fables, this collection offers something engaging for every reader, guaranteed to make you laugh, cry, smirk, or gasp. Greed? Desire? Revenge? Murder? No matter what your favorite topic, step into this author’s story worlds and experience emotional highs and twisted endings sure to satisfy.

Thanks to the Cactus Flower Bookery!

Thank you, Stephanie and Shirleen, at the Cactus Flower Bookery, for sponsoring the recent author event. We really enjoyed reading our work and met a ton of interesting people. Love your bookstore and all the crafts and cute plants for sale, too. Hope you have many more author events in the future and that we can attend their events, too! Many thanks from me, from novelist Eric Norway, from mystery writer L.C. Hayden, and from artist Erika Martinez. It was a blast!

Poetry Reading

Hi, folks. This is to invite you to a reading of poems from my new book Moody Gardens: A Collection of Travel Poems. It will be Saturday April 6 from 12 to 2 at El Paso Community College’s Valle Verde Campus on Hunter St, in building A room 1130A. There is an open house going on with great activities for kids, too, from face painting to a jumping balloon. You can buy a book from me and I will autograph it for you. Hope to see you there!

Expert Advice for Poets

For my poet and writer friends, I’ve found a great blog to help us better our work. Robert Lee Brewer writes a column for Writer’s Digest and it’s called “Poetic Asides.” He’s really good at explaining advanced forms of poetry, plus gives examples and prompts. Look for his blog here:

Thanks, Erika, for another successful reading!

Thanks to all the friends, old and new, who attended the reading and brunch today at Erika Martinez’s home. She is truly talented! And her lovely home displays her art on its many artsy walls!

Lots of sandwiches, fruit, bagels, coffee, conversation, and fun! Let’s do it again soon.

I hope you enjoyed listening to my poems as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

Open Mic at African Fiesta Cafe: Thank you!

Thanks to all the friends, family, neighbors, and writers who attended our Open Mic reading at the beautiful African Fiesta Cafe. Several talented poets read including Judith Vasquez, David Davis, and Cecy Arreola. Some great guitarists played, and we totally enjoyed singers JuJu and Mindy Chanson. Thanks to Erika Martinez for bringing the original paintings “Dark Lantern” and “Tlatelolco” to display. Thanks, Peggy, for a wonderful night of art, fun, and food.
